Mission
Independent media companies – enduring institutions built on the principles of quality journalism – are the heartbeat of democracy.
Yet after years of democratic optimism, much of Europe is experiencing a reduction in plurality of news and information. In many countries in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Eruope, governments and their business allies are working together to take over the ownership of independent media companies with the aim of subverting their editorial. By silencing criticism and controlling the flow of news and information, state-oligarch cartels are extinguishing transparency and accountability, ensuring their unimpeded access to public resources and prolonging their hold on power.

Pluralis invests the capital that independent media need to resist capture by governments and business interests seeking to subvert their independence, helping to safeguard their plurality of news and information across the region.
